Boerne, Texas

Not Far from San Antonio and Austin in the Pretty Texas Hill Country, Boerne Has a Rich German Heritage and a Touristy Creekside Downtown

Boerne (“Bernie”) is an inviting town about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio and 95 miles southwest of Austin in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Settled by German free thinkers, it retains an independent attitude along with many of its original structures.

The town plays up its German heritage, and the cute downtown, nestled along the bank cypress-lined Cibolo Creek, has an eclectic mix of specialty shops, art galleries, antique stores, wine bars and a brewhaus, making it a popular weekend shopping and tourist destination.

The Main Plaza features a gazebo and fountain and is home to the Berges Fest, a three-day celebration of Boerne’s German roots.  The Kendall County Fair, the Harvest Moon Festival and Boerne Market Days attract lively crowds.

The Cibolo Nature Center includes a boardwalk, hiking trails and four distinct ecosystems spread across 100 acres.  The town lake is the place to picnic, fish or take a stroll.  Nearly a dozen parks are home to a variety of activities.

National chains and locally owned eateries make up the dining scene.  Nightlife is practically non-existent.

Housing includes new gated communities in addition to historic structures.
